Oper von Georges Bizet

Mit der Oper 'Carmen' ist Georges Bizet eine eindrucksvolle Darstellung menschlicher Gefühle und Leidenschaften im Sevilla des 19. Jahrhunderts gelungen. Die spanische Zigeunerin Carmen ist sich ihrer Wirkung auf Männer sehr bewusst.

Zum einen erscheint sie sehr liebevoll, romantisch und verführerisch, zum anderen jedoch auch verlogen und berechnend. Sie ist die Protagonistin der Geschichte und alle Männer liegen ihr zu Füßen. Don José aber möchte sie ganz für sich alleine haben. Carmen fühlt sich durch seine fordernde Liebe wie in einen Käfig gesperrt. Sie will weiter frei sein und ihr Leben selbst bestimmen. Während sich Escamillo, der neue Geliebte Carmens, in der Stierkampfarena feiern lässt, wartet Don José am Eingang auf das Eintreffen Carmens…

Die Neuproduktion mit internationalen Gesangssolisten, Chor und renommiertem Orchester liegt wie immer in den bewährten Händen Michael Vaccaros, Inhaber und Intendant der Opera Classica Europa. Die Besucher dürfen sich daher wieder auf eine klassische Inszenierung mit prächtigen Kostümen und stimmungsvoller Beleuchtung freuen.

Opernliebhaber sollten sich diese eindrucksvolle Aufführung von Georges Bizets 'Carmen' in romantischer Open-Air-Atmosphäre am Freitag, dem 17.08.2018 in 63667 Bad Salzhausen (Stadt Nidda), Unterer Kurpark, keinesfalls entgehen lassen.

 

Kassandra Dimopoulou - Carmen

Kassandra Dimopoulou was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. Her music talent has been extraordinary since she was a child and she already was a well known cellist in Greece at the age of 15. She studied music in Greece (Cello Diploma) and completed her undergraduate music studies at the Music Academies in Germany (Detmold and Stuttgart Music Academies). She took a Master in Arts from the Royal Academy of Music in London with distinction (DipRam) supported by a scholarship from the Leventis Foundation, the Athena Scholarship, the Newton Scholarship, as well as the support of Life Action Trust and the Josephine Baker Trust.

The singing carrier started around 2005 but it was in 2007 when she sang the main role in Bizet's "Carmen" in Germany (Monschau Klassik). Her Greek debut followed with the role of Cleopatra in Handel's "Giulio Cesare", from which she got great critics from the Greek and international press, as well as the Prize of The Best New Artist by the Greek Critics Association (2009). For the same role, the english magazine "Opera Now" listed her as one of the most promising artists of the next generation. Her name became of international fame though, after her participation in the live TV broadcast of Verdi's opera “Rigoletto”, next to Placido Domingo, under the musical direction of Mo Zubin Mehta. Her US debut followed in 2011, with Verdi's “Otello”.

Since 2013 she is based in Thessaloniki, Greece, where she co-runs the Hellenic Opera Corporation and has become the only private company that puts grand opera on stage regularly. Kassandra's voice has a very characteristic, unique dramatic timbre and it expands over a large range with easiness and strength that carries the voice even in the largest theatres. Her repertoire has expanded over the years over a very large range, including roles from early baroque (Monteverdi, Handel) and Bel Canto (Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi) to contemporary music, including some of the most famous operatic roles such as Carmen, Amneris, Desdemona, Tosca, Adalgisa a.o. She has sung in many opera houses and festivals, among them Staatsoper Stuttgart, National Theater Luxemburg, Festival Aixen- Provence, Festival Mozart Toujours in Salzburg, Thessaloniki and Athens Concert Hall, Teatro Cilea Reggio Calabria, Knoxville Opera and collaborated with orchestras such as RAI Torino, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Athens and Thessaloniki National Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater Minsk, St Paul's Sinfonia, a.o.

She is currently the Artistic Director of the Hellenic Opera Co. and the Greek Opera Festival. Parallel to her singing career, she is a successful opera director and has directed the operas: "La Serva Padrona", "Antigone", “Otello", "Suor Angelica", “Il Tabarro”, ”Carmen”, "I Pagliacci”, “Norma” and “Le nozze di Figaro”.

 

Philip Modinos - Don Jose

Philip Modinos has been active in the world of performing arts since 1996. Better known for his singing, (but with many important credits as pianist and conductor), he has sung some of the greatest roles in the Operatic repertoire in Greece, Cyprus, England, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, America and Egypt. He has received exceptional reviews for his work. He has appeared with: National Opera of Greece – Athens, Royal Opera House - London (not part of the ROH production program), Opera Alexandria (Egypt), Teatro della Feria – Valladollid(Spain), Bellano Lyrica – Bellano(Italy), Barbican Centre – London, St John's Smith Square – London, 16th Festival of Ancient Drama – Cyprus, to name but a few. He has also worked for the National Theatre of Greece as well as the company “Theatriki Diadromi”. Roles include: Siegfried, Otello, Radames (Aida), to name but a few.

He is the co-founder of the company Skull of Yorick Productions which was established in London in 2012 and is based in Thessaloniki,Greece since 2013. He is also the co-founder of the Thessaloniki Opera Studio and the Greek Opera Festival (started as Thessaloniki Opera Festival).

 

 

 

Patricia Freres - Micaëla

Luxembourg soprano with an unusually expressive, emotional presence brings a natural acting pulse into her vocal art.

She has won the following high ranking prizes: 2000 "Prix des Jeunesses Musicales" Lauréate de la Classe d'Art Lyrique 2001 "Prix Supérieur Art Lyrique" and the 2003 "Prix Supérieur Chant" with distinction.

She has given masterclasses in Luxembourg, Salzburg, Hamburg, Bayreuth, Munich and Berlin. Since then, Patricia Freres has produced a wide vocal and stylistic range, which extends from the classical and romantic opera about the current experimental music theater to scenic song cycles. In addition to these theatrical and musical productions Patricia Freres has unfolded a rich concert activity with songs and arias programs. In multiple leading parts she regularly convinces audiences and critics with her vocal expressiveness.

Recently, she enacted G. Puccini’s character of Cio Cio San in the Opera "Madama Butterfly" at the Greek Opera Festival in Thessaloniki. Backed by the Grammy nominated chamber ensemble from the "Deutsche Oper Berlin", she portrayed Manon from G. Puccini’s "Manon Lescaut" and sang the role of Joan of Arc as part of the series of “Opera Pasticcio”. Patricia Freres will perform again both roles this year in September in Bad Ems and in November in Berlin.

Since 2016 she is collaborating with the Hellenic Opera Corporation".This year in October she will sing the role of Mimi from G. Puccini’s Opera La Bohème at Thessaloniki Concert Hall.
